And when a great multitude had gathered, and they had come to Him from every city, He spoke by a parable: “A sower went out to sow his seed. And as he sowed, some fell by the wayside; and it was trampled down, and the birds of the air devoured it. Some fell on rock; and as soon as it sprang up, it withered away because it lacked moisture. And some fell among thorns, and the thorns sprang up with it and choked it. But others fell on good ground, sprang up, and yielded a crop a hundredfold.” When He had said these things He cried, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear!” Luke 8:4–8, NKJV
Jesus said, "If you don’t understand this parable, how then will you understand any parable?"' Mark 4:13.
The Sower: The One who reveals the heart of God.
The Seed: The Word of God.
The Soil: The condition of your heart and mind
“He who has ears to hear, let him hear.” –Jesus, Luke 4:8
1. Change the way you think about Jesus
“What lies at the heart of the astonishing disregard of Jesus found in the moment-to-moment existence of multitudes of professing Christians is a simple lack of respect for him.” – Dallas Willard
“Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. Those on the wayside are the ones who hear; then the devil comes and takes away the word out of their hearts... –Jesus, Luke 8:11–12
2. Change the way you think about how people change

“Knowing something is not the same as being able to do something.”
“Having information is not enough and, in fact, is quite dangerous. Proficiency with information tricks us into thinking that we have truly mastered practices for living the life to which Jesus calls us.” – Dr. Jim Herrington
“Knowing facts about the seed is very different from experiencing the growth of the seed.”
“The seeds that fell on rocky soil are those who, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, who believe for a while and in time of temptation fall away. Luke 8:13
“It doesn’t matter how much Word you have in you. Willpower not enough.”
3. Change the way you think about the time it takes to change

Be with Jesus. Become like him. Do as he did

The seeds that fell among the thorns represent those who hear the message, but all too quickly the message is choked out by the cares and riches and pleasures of this life. And so they never grow into maturity. Luke 8:14
“But the ones that fell on the good ground are those who, having heard the word with a humble and good heart, keep it and bear fruit with patience.” Luke 8:15
“The other seed that fell on good ground came up and yielded a crop, a hundred times more than was sown.” Luke 8:8
