White House Honors Heartland Pastor as ‘Uniter’

September 29, 2022

We wanted to share some exciting news about some recent attention the church has received. The White House recently convened an event that honored 16 people throughout the country as "Uniters". Our own Senior Pastor, Dr. Darryn Scheske, was one of those ‘Uniters.’

One of Heartland’s Covering Pastors, Dr. JoAnne Lyon, shares with us in the following video the significance of the honor and why we all should be proud of what Heartland Church is accomplishing together.

White House Statement

"Rev. Dr. Scheske has dedicated his life to bridging divides between diverse communities. In 2001, Scheske founded Heartland Church, a multi-racial, multi-ethnic, interdenominational church in Fishers, Indiana, just 20 minutes north of the birthplace of the KKK.

He is a founding member of the Fishers Council on Race and Equity (Fishers CORE) and of the Greater Indiana Multi-faith Alliance (GIMA). Through this work, he piloted a program of small groups to build bridges of trust across racial cultures called “Be the Bridge” with the goal of training 5,000 people over the next five years.

In the years following 9/11, he focused this work on developing relationships of respect and trust with the local Islamic community. He was invited to give remarks at the dedication of their first Masjid in Fishers, Indiana, in 2021."
